In the search for America’s top Military professional truck driver, (Captain) Edward “Eddy” Cavanagh was nominated as one of the ten finalists for Transition Trucking’s “Driving for Excelence” Award. This award honors outstanding professional drivers with military experience.

His military background comes across in everything he does. Eddy said that,“It has given him the skills as w ell as atitude to accomplish this new mission without compromise”. As an Army Captain and with an MBA in Business, Edward has plans to build his career in the trucking industry. His goals include eventualy working in Operations or Training, and perhaps as a terminal manager at Fort Hood/Killeen.

Stevens Transport Joins Military Spouse Employment Partnership


Stevens Transport is proud to announce its participation in the Department of Defense Military Spouse Employment Partnership. The Military Spouse Employment Partnership is an employment and career partnership connecting military spouses with more than 295 partner employers who have committed to recruit, hire, promote and retain military spouses in portable careers.

Stevens Transport officially joined the Military Spouse Employment Partnership on Oct. 28, 2015, at the annual Induction Ceremony held at the Mark Center in Alexandria, Virginia. Dr. Jill Biden launched the Military Spouse Employment Partnership on June 29, 2011 to serve spouses from all military services. The partnership is part of the Department of Defense broader Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, which seeks to reduce the 25 percent unemployment rate experienced by military spouses and close the 25 percent wage gap currently experienced by military wives.

By joining the Military Spouse Employment Partnership, Stevens Transport is becoming part of an even larger collective effort to support military spouse employment.

Veterans Can Earn $50,000 Their 1st Year

Stevens Transport is sponsoring the total cost of CDL training and is proud to support our military men and woman as they transition to civilian life and corporate America. This partnership will deliver a defined and established CDL program to the transitioning soldiers at Fort Hood and result in direct employment with Stevens Transport. Veterans can earn approximately $50,000.00 their first year and up to $70,000.00 by their third year as a professional driver. With our Veteran Approved OJT Program, eligible veterans can earn up to an additional $10,302.00 tax free in addition to their regular pay over the first six months.

Classes are held on Fort Hood in the Central Texas College building 3200, room 108. The program consist of 160 hours of intensive classroom and hands on training.

Fort Hood is the first military installation where Stevens Transport will be physically domiciled on base. This program is the first of its kind that supports the Army’s Career Skills Program (CSP) and offers employment of transitioning soldiers, spouses and family members immediately following CDL training. Fort Hood was selected to be our first Army “home base” due to its proximity to our worldwide headquarters in Dallas Texas. We are proud to partner with Central Texas College and Fort Hood to bring superior training and employment opportunities to the men, women and families who have served our country.

Stevens Transport currently has five training locations across the U.S. that are strategically placed near various other military installations where we train and employ many veterans. Through our partnership with Central Texas College and TASI we have developed strategic plans to take this model to multiple other on-base installations in the near future.

Stevens Transport Announces New Management Hire


Management team expanded to support growing demand for driver resources and development

Dallas (Sept. 17, 2015) – Stevens Transport, the largest refrigerated trucking company in Texas and North America’s premier multi-modal, temperature-controlled freight carrier, today announced a recent addition to the company’s management team to meet the needs of its growing workforce. John Frey joined the company as senior director of driver resources.

“We are very excited to welcome John aboard,” said Clay Aaron, president of Stevens Transport. “His transportation industry experience; extensive knowledge in driver development, driver safety, and training; and experience with transportation industry affairs will help support our drivers and our mission. He is a welcomed addition to our management team.”

Frey will work closely with company leadership to strengthen driver resources and driver development.

Prior to joining Stevens, Frey spent 20 years at Werner Enterprises where he was responsible for a variety of driver initiatives. He began his career in transportation after serving our country for 24 years as a U.S. Marine.

Frey is a board member of the Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA), and has played a significant role as an industry affairs liaison with the American Trucking Associations and Truckload Carriers Association.
